Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund Launches Mobile Voter Guide

BOSTON – The Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund (PPAF) launched a Mobile Voter Guide today in conjunction with the national Planned Parenthood Action Fund, detailing where statewide and local candidates for elected office stand on issues important to voters such as access to women’s health care and comprehensive sexuality education. PPAF is the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts.

“We believe voters should be able to easily access information about where candidates stand on the issues that matter to them. Planned Parenthood’s Mobile Voter Guide gives voters the opportunity to learn more about candidates on all of their electronic devices.” said Marty Walz, President of the Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund. “Voters can both learn where candidates stand on women’s health, whether or not they received our endorsement, and see a percentage score the candidates have received based on their track record on women’s health.”

Planned Parenthood Celebrates Victory of Martha Coakley for Governor in Democratic Primary Race

BOSTON – The Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund (PPAF) celebrated Martha Coakley’s victory tonight in the Democratic primary election for Massachusetts Governor. PPAF is the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts.

“Martha Coakley’s victory tonight is a victory for women’s health” said Marty Walz, President of PPAF. “As most recently demonstrated by her strong leadership on the Safe Access law passed this summer, Martha Coakley has a long and consistent record of championing women’s access to health care. She will be the kind of governor Massachusetts needs to lead the nation in expanding access to health care, comprehensive sexuality education, and family planning services.”

As Attorney General, Coakley played an instrumental role in supporting the state’s 2007 buffer zone law which protected public safety outside of reproductive health centers. Coakley advocated for the bill before the state legislature in 2007 and led her office’s defense of the buffer zone law in five court challenges, including the recent case decided by the U.S. Supreme Court on June 26. After the Court struck down the buffer zone law, Coakley immediately partnered with PPLM to draft new legislation to enhance safety at reproductive health care centers.

In the weeks leading up to the primary, PPAF ran a volunteer-driven voter education program to turn out voters across the state. Additionally, PPAF used digital media and launched an online voter guide to educate voters about where the candidates stand.

PPAF will continue working to elect Martha Coakley for governor in the general election.
